data execution problems in windows xp

I am unable to log in due to dep problems in windows xp, unable to access task manager, It is throwing an error
“To help protect your computer, Windows has closed this program” Name: Windows Explorer
Publisher: Microsoft Corporation.

Will formatting be the only solution? Can any one please help me get out of this
