Databasing Word Documents for Web Access

I am trying to figure out a way to access documents saved in Word 2000 via the web, however, I need to be able to search those documents two different ways. The first is by first or last name, the second would be a patient number. The documents are transcription reports that are dictated by doctors, and saved onto a local server. My final goal is to allow the doctors access into the web server via secure connection and allow them to view patient information via a web browser from any location. Any thoughts?
