DBA – career growth

I am a Oracle DBA and worked on various platforms and databases. I have about 8 years of experience. With J2EE and middleware my role is reduced to Database maintenance guy. I don’t have any decision making role and most of the jobs are ‘production support’ with no growth prospects. What is my future? Am I in the wrong field??
