Desktop Standards Lab f/ ESD-Help Needed

by testing123 . Updated 24 years, 7 months ago

In an effort to reduce IT Support Costs my company is cautiously moving from a total lack of desktop and laptop policies to three initiatives:
1) Asset Management with an Auto-Discovery Tool
2) Hardware and Software Standards, and
3) Policy-basedSoftware Distribution

Between steps 2 and 3 lies a need for a permanent PC lab with sample hardware that represents most, if not all, of the desktops and laptops in our enterprise. I want to avoid some of the ESD war stories I have heard and read about!

I have benefited from discussions on this forum covering “Locking Down Users” but find myself in need of assistance in finding material or best practices to build a PC Lab while avoiding the pitfalls that have already been discovered by others.

Ongoing IT Labs have been created for Disk-Imaging, HW/SW standardization projects, Electronic Software Distribution, Help Desk Support and other needs.

If you have experiences and advice you can share, or suggestions on resources to assist me and others in a similar situations I would greatly appreciate it!

I am open to emails as well as posts! Thanks!
