Dissappearing or hidden printers

I have a windows 2000 network running Windows 98 client machines. Occassionally a few machines will appear to loose their printers. The only icon that shows in the printer window is add a printer. If I try to add a printer i get a message that italready exists. If I reboot the machine everything is fine. Does anyone have any ideas why this happens?
