Do we have to keep Email for 7 Years

I do not know if this will only apply to Europe but I have been told by an “Expert” that there is new legalation being introduced that Companies will be legally required to keep Emails for 7 Years. Does any know if this is true and if so how would we be able to manage it in the normal working enviroment.
