I am looking for a document tracking/workflow server software that I can deploy to act like a virtual file cabinet with Check-ins, Check-outs, revision tracking, same document modifications(i.e. A single document or image gets modified in a central location) and role based authentication. I have found some commercially available software that fits the bill like cabinet NG, but they want approx 1000 per seat. Ouch! I support 320 medical users from providers to technicians, in a large outpatient clinic. The need to track who views and modifies documents is based in part on HIPAA(Health Insuance Portability and Accountibilty Act)laws that took affect April 14th. The Security rule has yet to be finilized but soon in coming, hence the need to come up with a solution. I know their are many well versed and educated visitors that come to this site, so I am sure I will get some good answers. One thing i forgot to mention that is the most important, I want OpenSource, GNU, GPL software, free oflicensing terms and costs. I hope that I am not asking for the world here!
