DSL and Small Buisness Server 4.5

by millennium tech support . Updated 25 years ago

I need some help getting client apps such as MS Messenger, Real Player, Norton Live Update, etc. running through our new DSL connection. We’re using an Alcatel Speed Touch Home Modem and Bell Sympatico as our High speed access provider. Bell does NOT support a ‘default gateway’ as it’s assigned with the IP when the Access Manager negotiates the connection (it also required PPPoE). All these apps run directly from the server, but the clients always get an error indicating that they’re not connected to the internet. At first, I thought that Proxy just required SP1 to fix the problem as browser access and email worked fine. But, no such luck. I’ve tried the install based on a couple articles that I’ve d/l’d but it just will not work. What it comes down to is the fact that Server can do it all, but the clients just can’t. Any suggestions? If all else fails, we’ll just purchase a router, but we have the modem so I’d like to get it to work if at all possible. Thanks!
