DVD Rewriter not recognising any discs

Hi, My Samsung DVD Rewriter drive has stopped recognising all types of discs, including CDs, standard DVDs etc. The drive is available in the Windows Explorer but when I insert any disc into it, it comes with error saying please insert a valid disc.

Has the drive gone dead?

Please advise.
