DVD to CD-R Copy Software Users

I recently received an advertisement for DVD Backup Buddy software. This software eliminates purchasing costly DVD Writer Hardware.
Have any of you TR members used this software
or similar software to create DVD backups/copies?

How does it work for you? Does it work as well as if you were using a DVD Burner?
