Six months ago, I was promoted to IT Manager in a small organization after the IT manager’s contract expired and left. The IT dept has 4 staff. One of the staff joined a year after me. she has been here 6 years while I have been here 7 years. Shewas the DBA and I was Systems/Network Administrator. She cannot accept that I am now the manager and still sees me in the same level with her.
Secondly, one of the other staff is a male whom I have recruited. Senior management have made him assistant IT manager given his many years of hardware experience. His technical experience is lot more than mine. He is also a year older than me and is big in size too.
My situation is that, I find it difficult managing these 2 people and or giving them instructions. They have this ‘who are you’ attitude. As a female manager, this is difficult task for me in my male dominated society. How can I earn the respect from them so that I can easily manage?
