Efficient 3060 Modem and Linux

I am attempting to set up an Efficient 3060 DSL modem on RedHat 6.2. I have downloaded and installed the pppoe client for Linux that MaBell (BellSouth) supplies. It creates a stack (ppp0) fine but I still cannot see the modem. I have the latest pppdand diald installed. I am told I must run pppoe but it seems that it is for a modem to Ethernet config instead of an internal modem setup. I have contacted Efficient but have received no answers to date. I wish to run the Linux box as a router / firewall.
