I have looked all over and have not found a similar issue as my EFS problem. Basically we have about 4 users with laptops that use EFS on the “My Documents” directory and cannot access Excel or Word files. The error received is “Excel cannot access “filename.xls”. The document may be read-only or encrypted.”
Alot of things are confusing to me:
1. All users got this problem after the new year, last accessing files Dec 30th. Yet the certificates have not expired (according to certmgr.msc, am I missing somewhere else to look?).
2. They can open other files in the encrypted folder(ie Adobe, JPG, etc) just Excel and Word.
3. They are able to decrypt the excel and word files and access them, however I cannot encrypt them again to protect them.
I have a few users with a few GB’s worth of files, and would like a better solution than decrypting and storing elsewhere if possible. Any advice would be welcomed.
