Email Attachment Puzzle

When my client sends attachments with their email, the majority of people receive it correctly and whithout any problem, but some people receive the attachment (usually Microsot Word files) completely garbled and unreadable. What can be the cause? The client’s mail client is Outlook 2000 and it is set at MIME.
