Entry route into a career in Banking & Finance IT jobs

by kk4v07 . Updated 16 years, 11 months ago

I am currently going into my final year studying a BSc in Economics and have always been interested in IT (lots of family in the industry).

Recently my interest was sparked by an agency in london which recruits economics graduates into areas of IT tailored around trading applications such as Summit and Calypso. The jobs touted were ones revolving around Consultancy due to skills learnt from studying economics.

However I am not at all clued up on how long training would take, and what would be neccessary (as an econ undergrad I have no prior knowledge of the degree level knowledge involved in computing)and whether it would be a waste of time to pursue this avenue in terms of a career, so my question is what route would I be able to take? Will it require going back to university to study?

Thanks in advance for any answers.
