epsom c64 printer ink problem

my printer wont print – the red light on the teardrop indicating the ink cartridge needs replacing is lit. However I have only printed about 12 sheets since i purchased the dam thing it cant be empty!!
Is there a way to overwride the fault? without buying a new ink cartridge?
