Ethics Problem – Advice Please

by jereg . Updated 23 years, 1 month ago

I’m sort of stuck on this one, some maybe someone can tell me what I’m missing.

As the administrator, any undeliverable mail is sent to me. Often, I don’t even bother to look at it because most of it is spam. Today though, I get an email for an ex-employee, who the company did a lot for, then just walked off one day after 6 months. This email is from a current customer of his. I’m not sure if it’s a bid for work, or a job he’s working on now. For the looks of the email, he either screwed up on the specs, or if it’s a current job, he screwed up on what he delivered.

Here’s the rub. At the bottem is the usual disclaimer, “….intended solely for the attention and use of the named addressee(s). It must not be disclosed to any person without authorization. If you are not the intended recipient, or a person responsible for delivering it to the intended recipient, you are not authorized to, and must not, disclose, copy, distribute, or retain this message or any part of it.

Can I tell my boss? Can I pass this on and let them figure out what to do with it, or should I just keep my mouth shut? I’m leaning in a particular direction, but I’d like to get another opinion.

Thanks.
