Excel 97 Auto Update Cells

Is there a way of indentifiing when the contents of a cell has been updated even when the contents show the same results as it has. For example, say cell A1 has a figure of 100. If a user enters the same figure later in the day, how can I say the cell has been updated with a new figure even when the same figure is entered.
