Excel problem – corrupt tables

We have a problem that crops up: Excel tables that are embedded in Word files that become “corrupt.”

We found a tip to open the document using “Open and Repair”, but it only converts the corrupt Excel table to a picture vs. actually repairing it.
We need to open and revise data in the corrupt table and are forced to retype it, usually under a tight deadline. Do you have any solution?
