Excell 2K7 – Files saved to desktop won’t open

Office 2K7 professional. Create a file using the application – save the file to the XP desktop. Now when you click the file saved to the desktop, Excel will open, but the data from the file is not there. From within Excel, if you click file – open, drill down to the document it opens fine. I have read some post concerning this issue and tried the suggestions but yet the issue persists.
