Exchange 2000 Info

I need to know just has useful Exchange 2000 is. My boss doesn?t believe everything put out by MS and I am trying to gather some information from those in the field as to just how good it is. How useful is it to a medium sized business? Is it worththe investment? Is there a better alternative?
