Exchange 2k / Win2k & AD Forests

by nmead . Updated 25 years ago

I’ve been tasked with setting up Win2k and E2k for a spin-off company of ours. My scenario requires that ALL systems be autonomous and that there be no traces of the parent company within this ‘spin-off’. I initially setup a place-holder AD (so the Enterprise and Schema Admins groups would still be within the parent company’s AD) with two servers for our company and then created their AD tree in a forest configuration because we still need to be able to manage this from the parent company. My problem is this, I ran E2k’s setup /forestprep and /domainprep, but then when I installed E2k into the other AD tree, it picked up the organization and sites from the parent company. I know that forests are non-contiguous namespaces that sharea common schema, GC, etc. but is there any way to break them apart further? Also, I want to setup a single SMTP server to send & receive Internet Email w/ a virtual SMTP server for the spin-off company. I know that I can virtual host multiple SMTP sites, but how much will show up in the email header info? If anyone has any ideas or insight It would be greatly appreciated!

Thanks,
Nate
