exchange server in a dmz

I’ve heard conflicting arguments on putting an exchange server in the dmz. comments on that welcome. also, if I do put it in the dmz, how do i set the server so it will go directly (ip addr) to the domain server for authentication instead of it broadcasting for it. (using PIX firewall).
