Extended boot up time

I have a new HP Pavillion and it takes almost 10 minutes to boot up before it gets to the screen to pick my user profile. Since a profile has not been loaded yet, I have to think this has to be some core services starting that are causing problems. Is there a way to determine what is causing the delay?
