External device – cannot open, cannot format

by priya.velanki . Updated 18 years, 4 months ago

Hello Guys,

I have a Win 2000 XP pro SP2 on my laptop.
A few days ago, while loading songs into my sansa player – the player freezed up. I had to disconnect it unsafely as I had no other choice. Ever since, my computer does not let me open any external device. It recognizes it – but when I double- click on it- it says..do u wish to format.?
if i pick “NO”..it does not open it.
if i say “YES” ..it shows a quick format option.
When I try to format using that option, it says – windows could not complete formatting ur device.
I have tried plugging in my other MP3 player, Seagate External HD, Kingston USB..nothing works -its the same problem with all of them.
I have already tried re-installing the USB host-controllers from the device manager..did not help.
Can somebody tell me how to fix this.
Regards
