Fedora Core 3 Kernel version 2.6.12

I’ve just downloaded the lastest kernel for Fedora Core 3 version 2.6.12. I am unable to get out to the internet. All other services work fine (ie traceroute, ping, nslookup) but when I open up a browser, I cannot get to the web. So far I’ve disabled iptables but that doesn’t appear to be the problem. I’ve checked permissions on the resolv.conf file. Root has read/write permissions on the file. I also have the 2.6.9 kernel as well and checked the permissions but they are the same on both kernels. If anyone has any ideas please advise.
