File Sharing in Win XP HOME Edition

In XP Home Edition, if you go into safe mode you can set NTFS and share permsissions. Well I did this, but everytime I try to access the share I get an ACCESS DENIED message instead of a prompt for a user name and password. Any ideas? I know this has worked in the past for MANY people. Thanks!
