File sharing one way but not the other?

I have XP Pro on my laptop and XP Home on my desktop PC.

My Desktop will see the files on my lap-top fine but it will not work the other way around.

I have made sure the file sharing is turned on and have run the network setup wizard a number of times (enabling file and printer sharing).

The net connection is shared fine (net connection into the laptop) over the network to the desktop.

The are connected by a cross-over cable.
