I read a couple of posts lately ripping staffing firms and just thought I’d voice the other side for a second. Most people that are chatting on this board have probably worked with a firm once and been screwed and then it’s all over. I am a sales peron for a small IT Staffing company in CHICAGO. We’re privately held (very important!!) and have a very simple moto: treat your consultants and clients as your friends and the rest takes care of itself. I know – this sounds like bs. The lesson here is when you need help finding a job, make sure to “interview” your firm at the same time they are interviewing you. Ask to speak with a senior consultant with that firm (they’ll give you the skinny), DON’T TRUST ANYONE! Make that firm earn your trust. Once you work with a company once, if your experience is good, keep it up. The majority of companies in the IT Consultant Space don’t care about their consultants and it’s evident in your first experience with them. They don’t call you back, BlackList ’em., They don’t give you client information, BlackList ’em, They don’t meet you face to face BEFORE submitting you to the client, BlackList ’em. The point here is that you need to be aware that your career is your responsibility and to take the time and effort to get to know your firm…….if they don’t recipricate the effort…BLACKLIST EM.
