FTP Server

I can’t get the FTP server on an RHL 6.1 box to accept any login. I downloaded and installed wu-ftpd-2.6.1. Then I copied all of the ftp* configuration files from a working system. No matter what user I try (root or non-root) the result is the same — “530 Login incorrect.”

Hosts.allow/deny, ftpservers, and ftphosts are empty. I renamed ftpusers and ftpgroups to eliminate them. Ftpaccess looks mostly like the example from the wu-ftpd download, modified to block anonymous and guest.

I’m having to learn Linux admin on the fly. The consultant who did the other installation is not readily available.
