Future Planning & Broadcasts

by billmannion . Updated 21 years, 7 months ago

I am trying to gather information to create a business abstract on changes that I feal we need to the network. I am looking for sources (material I can quote from) & resources to help develop this change abstact.

Here is the environment:
non-profit ogranization with locations in VT & DC. Two T1s from the internet to the VT office. One T1 point to point to the DC office. We use 1700 routers to manage the p2p and at least one of the internet T1s. Backbone comprises of 3com superstack switches. Currently the following is available on the network beyond normal http & MS File Sharing; we have a VoIP phone system and Video conferencing system.

Future plans:
include upgrading from the low level video conferencing system to a true high level video conferencing system.
I would like to get ride of the 3com switches, which only provide simple switching.
Switch out at least one firewall for the PIX that is sitting on the shelf collecting dust.

Issues:
We have a lot of congestion over the p2p, since we have no QoS in place.
We have about 40% broadcast happening on the network.
Phone quality is poor to fair at best.

I need proof to put into the business abstract, but in terms that business people can understand. I am using network monitoring and a sniffer to gather the statitics to back things up, but if anyone has created this kind of abstract before, your input would be most welcome.
