hardware probe script

anyone have a decent script to probe a usb device to get the information it broadcasts to work on getting a driver for it?

I got a free “Microsoft” branded fingerprint scanner last night.
[ with the windows disk ]

but there doesn’t seem to be any device driver for linux yet for it. 🙁
