HD_Kill and Norton Anti-Virus

by navy moose . Updated 24 years, 8 months ago

I use HD_Kill to prepare hard drives for new images. One of the instructors we have mentioned getting a virus from a drive he used this program to prepare.

When I used my Norton Anti-virus it told me the file was contaminated with Trojan.ZeroBoot. It was unable to clean the file, and quarantined it.

The date of the virus being discovered was 10 September 2001.

I was more than surprised to see this virus on a floppy I’ve never used on a computer connected to the backbone.

My questions are: Has anyone else discovered this virus on their copy of HD_kill? Could this be the result of HD_kill and this virus working in the same footprint in the MBR?

Thank you for your assistance
