I’m talking to a potential employer now. I have gone for the first and second interview. I’ve not spoken to the company since. What I hear so far all comes from the headhunter. I am feeling uneasy as I’m not talking to the employer. The headhunter tells me to leave everything to him as lately, the situation has turn delicate. There is another headhunting firm who place another candidate just as good as I am at a lower salary.
I’ve previously given some references to the employer directlythrough email. The headhunter now asked me for those references. Initially, I suspected the headhunter might just be trying to get a few more contacts. I just sent him a few names. But now, he is saying that he and the employer are going to callthe references and that the employer would be forwarding my email to him. I don’t know whether to believe him or not. As of now, they have not called the reference yet.
Should I call the employer to find out what exactly is happening ?
I would also like to tell the employer that I’m ok for a lower salary that what I’ve initial asked for (through the headhunter). I don’t want to loose the job to the other candidte. I also don’t want the company to pay such a high salary that they have unrealistic expectations later on. On the other hand, I don’t want to be underpaid. The company is a hugh US multinational, really hugh. Should I ?
I’m also concern about the expectations of the job. I do know that hugh multinational does pay well but even then, what I’ve asked for might be on the high side. For a MNC, does it matter how much I’m paid ? Would people expects more from the person in the same position, with a high salary ? What is your advise, should I stick to my initial salary or negotiate with them. THe funny thing here is that I’ve not spoken to them about salary and yet, now I’m telling them I don’t mind getting less.
Thank you very much.
