HELP – Exchange Log Files are Not deleting after added to database

by bob.hunt . Updated 21 years, 9 months ago

I could use a bit of help here. Quick background – never worked with Exchange. Have been doing mostly project contract work last 4 years. Never been in a true Admin position, but I am now.

Started at job 2 weeks ago and what a mess. I’ll get into that at a later time, but I question my preddecessors abilitities.

My current problem that I’m trying to resolve is that in the MDBDATA folder of Exchange, there seem to be log files piling high. My teammate tells me that “Exchange keeps making these files. We just try to delete them before they fill up the hard drive.”

What????

I know absolutely nothing about Exchange, but I know enough that this probably shouldn’t be the case.

I did a bit of research and found that these 5 mb log files are created as a temp file before the information is added to the database. In case of a crash, these files would be needed to restore had the info not been added to the database. I also learned that there should only be about 4 or 5 of these files in the folder. My assumption is that they get deleted after they are added to the db.

Is there a setting I need to change so that these files get deleted after they are added to the DB?

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I’m just trying to fix the basic problems as I come across thenm and this appears to be one.

Thanks
