I recently started a job working with developmentally disabled men. With my background in computers and an MS in Comp. Sci. I am also the “computer guy”. I need to implement a small network so I am looking for online resources specialized for 1) IT Consultants for non-profit agencies, and 2) newbie network administrators.
An example of something useful was when I was ordering software online yesterday. I told them I was ordering for a non-profit agency and was wondering if I could get a promotional code to save money. They waived the shipping and handling.
I have already implemented basic things, such as virus protection and data backups. Also did an inventory and looking for a good spreadsheet to save the data. We have 11 PCsand one Mac in three locations. The five or six PCs in the office will be networked, but I’ve never set up a network or managed one.
