Help pls: Problems after disabling simple file sharing in XP Home Edition

by 2p718282 . Updated 16 years, 8 months ago

My purpose was to allow myself remote access to files on my machine, yet also allow a Guest account that can not access my files. I booted in Safe Mode and set permissions such that Guest had no control over files in Myname. But when I logged in as Myname (same pw and all), I came to a brand new empty account. I went back into Safe Mode and undid my work. However it made no difference. I cannot get to my files or previous setup.

All I want to do now is get back to having access to my files, by logging in under Myname and seeing the account I had before. As Admin under Safe Mode, I have set permissions such that Myname and everyone else has full control over all user accounts, and STILL I cannot access my stuff.

It’s still there, though, under dir Myname; while when I log in as Myname I end up in this new dir called Myname.Computername which of course has nothing but default files in it.

Advice, please.
