I’m currently an “IT Specialist” at my company but taking on projects like no ones business – looking to turn a few heads and make it into the decision makers circle. We’re looking for a way to remove the users from the equation completely. View virtualizes the desktop, makes hardware next to worthless, and gives us complete control over every aspect. I have been looking at VMware View but dont know if thats the best out there what do you guys think or do you guys have another alternative.
Ok, heres some background info on my company: 10,000 employees and an IT staff of about 50.
We have about 7500+ desktops serving these 10,000+ employees. We have a few hundred existing servers running mostly Windows Server 2003. There are other solutions (including just keeping our existing desktop infrastructure) but we’re looking for a more controlled approach – At the moment all users have full admin access to their PC because many of our apps won’t run without it and we don’t have the time to deal with hunting down reg settings/etc. This means we have users installing iTunes, playing video games, watching DVDs, etc.
