Home Networking for a Newbie

Hello,
I am attempting to network two computers, via crossover cable. One computer is running Win2000 and the other is running Win98 2nd Ed. The Win98 comp. is asking for a network password. While the Win2000 doesn’t even acknowledge the Win98 comp. It’s obvious that I am missing a step or two. So, can someone PLEASE HELP me? First,what password is it asking for? I did not setup a network password, all I did was connect the cable to the Nic cards. Second, I would like both computers to share one printer and I would like both computers to share one modem? (to access the internet)
I realize that I am asking a lot, but if someone out there can help…Well, Thanks.
