Home WiFi ASDL i-mate Jasjam connection

I’ll keep it simple for you:

I have
-Siemens SpeedStream 3583 4port Wifi router
-Laptop w/XP SP2 and Netgear 56Mb/s PCIMA Card
-Bigpond ASDL Connection
-i-mate Jasjam with Wifi

Current settings allow my laptop to go on the net.

I would like to set up my i-mate to use net via Speedstream independantly from my laptop (ie i-mate to router to net). Also I would like to share files wirelessly without having to do more than activating the WiFi on my i-mate.

I have tried manually configuring the PDA’s network settings and can get the i-mate to say the network is available. But I cannot get either the router or laptop to see the PDA and vice-versa.
