I recently changed jobs due to the economy and the direction my previous company was heading. I moved out of consulting for a global services provider and moved in-house for a global manufacturer. From all indications the move was a good idea. My previous employer was not able to provide a steady stream of customer contracts to keep me busy, and is starting a large round of layoffs. I was promised the layoffs wouldn’t affect me if I stayed but I needed to be in a more secure position for my family.
I am curious what other IT professionals are thinking? Has the fear and uncertainty caused you to make a move? Are you hanging in there with your current employer? I’d like to hear some opinions on what IT professionals should be doing to survive in 2009.
