How can you keep Chrome browser in the background?

I’m Neil from Geelong in Australia.
I really like the feature in Firefox where the browser can be made to stay in the background when links are selected.
In IE and Chrome whenever I click a link in an email, the browser comes to the foreground.
Often I am not wanting to read the linked article right then and want the browser to stay in the background until I want to read the article.
Do you know if this can be made to happen for CHROME?
I like using Chrome except for the way it keeps jumping in front.
