I’m running WinXP SP2 Home edition fully patched. I use DriveImage XML to back up my system, but it can neither lock my system nor back up using Volume Shadow Copy, even though both MS Software Shadow Copy Provider and Volume Shadow Copy are automatic and started in Services. This is true even when I run the program from a CD using BartPE.
In Device Manager, it says that Generic Volume Shadow Copy is not connected to the computer (Code 45). In the Application Event Log, there is an Event Code 12302 error every time I do a backup. There are no programs listed under HKLM\System\CurrentControllerSet\Control\ContentIndex\Catalogs in the registry; I don’t know what programs should be listed there.
The Indexing Service is disabled. I hope that I don’t need to enable it to get Volume Shadow Copy working.
I’m at a loss as to how to solve this problem and would appreciate whatever assistance anyone can offer.
