How do I tell type of USB cable

Over the years, I’ve accumulated quite a collection of cables — serial, parallel, ribbon, coax, etc., etc., null modem, straight through, short, long, various grades, all sorts of connectors. Now I’ve started building a bunch of USB cables. Some I remember (I think) whether they are Type 1.1 or Type 2, but some … and there will be more … I don’t know which they are.

Anyone know a good/easy was to test or otherwise tell the 1’s from the 2’s?? … (or the 3’s and the 4’s, if it comes to that)?
