How to autodial in Linux

by tohsoon28 . Updated 24 years, 2 months ago

I’m using Red Hat Linux 7.2.

I configured an Internet connection using the “Dialup Configuration” (“Main Menu” -> “Programs” -> “Internet” -> “Dialup Configuration”).

The Internet connection is actually using the wvdial program because the settings go to the file /etc/wvdial.conf.

To connect to ISP, I use the “RH PPP Dialer” (“Main Menu” -> “Programs” -> “Internet” -> “RH PPP Dialer”).

Is there a way to configure autodial, i.e. if I open Netscape and fetch a Web page, the connectionis automatically brought up? And I also need the connection to be automatically brought down when it is idle for a specified time period.

Any help is greatly appreciated. Thank you.
