How to automatically position side by side windows on one monitor?

Hi, I’d like to try working in side by side windows on XP, usually using Microsoft Windows applications such as Word, Excel, Outlook. When I open two programs, I have to reposition the windows manually which takes time…is there a way to have Windows “remember” that I want the first two applications I open to open up side by side, each taking up half the horizontal space?
