How to connect automatically to a wireless network

Everytime I use my laptop, it is suppose to connect automatically to the wireless home network. It does not. Instead I go through the following setup routine to make it happen:
Network connections.
Wireless network. (No wireless connections are shown)
Change advanced settings
Wireless networks
Tic box: Use windows to configure my wireless network settings.

Then the connection is made.
However the tic in the appropriate box does not stay there, resulting in the same routine everytime I use my laptop.
Can anyone help me to solve this? I would really appreciate it.
