How to make the jump

I’ve been in the industry for over ten years and have had extensive corporate and enterprise experience. Over the years my specialty has been with data security. If I wanted to break through the barrier between engineers and management/executives what would be the best route? Should I sit for the CISSP? Should I attend a college and get some degree?
