how to share files between 2 NT systems

i have the crossover cable, one computer is a laptop the other is full-size, both are running windows NT 4.0 workstation, they’re both in the same workgroup. but…

i cannot make the computers share files. i can’t even see the the other computer nor can the other see mine in network neighborhood. the protocols are fine. file and printer sharing are on. WHAT ELSE CAN I DO? oh, and how do i check to see whether or not either of the computers have a network card, though i’m almost positive theyboth do.
