How to stop MS project deleting task names

I have a 440-odd task project plan spanning 15 months (MS Project 2003 SP2)

Frequently, when I save the plan, Project blanks out or deletes the task name and the number1 field I’m using. It seems to happen in areas of the plan that were collapsed when it was last saved.

Has anyone else experienced this? Is there a known remedy?
